Malcanis' points about Logi are very good, so I'll briefly add some general points to supplement the information present in this thread:
Logi is sought after by organized player groups as a role that's support in fleets, but which isn't necessarily always supported by player behavior, or how EVE records data, and as such isn't necessarily always well supported.
Skilling towards a logistics ship, properly flown, will require a lot of the core skills necessary to fly any ship well. Fitting, capacitor, navigation, targeting, and tanking skills should be good, though as noted, they don't have to be perfect. The logistics skill itself requires 'perfect' targeting, and the role and hulls encourage very good skills (both SP skills and player skills) when it comes to targeting. Other skills just help you die less and fly longer, an important part of your role, and while having them perfect is a help, it's more beneficial that you fly the role at all.
From an organizational standpoint, though, support for logistics is something you should look into. Aside from incursions, skilling directly to logistics ships will not really improve your ability to support yourself. If you're joining a group with active incursion runners and want to run incursions to support yourself, you're likely set. Otherwise, you want a group that incentivizes logistics pilots to fly their ships with reimbursements for fleet losses, supplements to help you buy hulls and fittings, or at very least is willing to chip in to help you.
You also want to watch out for groups that strictly judge activity by killmail presence if you're flying mostly logistics in a primarily PvP role. Spending effort, concentration, fitting slots, and such to get on killmails while flying a logistics role really doesn't make sense, and it leads to poor fits, bad overviews, misclicks, and dumb decision making. If you're in a situation where you have to do this, carry some drones and let them assist your tackle. If this isn't enough, or isn't viable, your organization isn't judging the participation of its logi pilots well. |
